Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has explained the reasons some PSL clubs fail to stay within their budget.
Mphahlele, whose club campaigns in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, says he is not in football to chase money, hence he's shown no interest in bidding for broke Betway Premiership club Royal AM.
Baroka was relegated from the Premiership in 2022, ending their six-year stay in the top division, and since then, they have been finding it difficult to bounce back to the top league.

"In football, it is difficult to stay within your budget and at the same time, compete with the other clubs," Mphahlele tells KickOff.
"The problem starts when you want to compete with the top clubs when your budget doesn't allow you to. Big clubs have big budgets.
"The next thing you start pushing yourself, and month end you can't afford your debts.
"The difference between running a club in the Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship is the cost, the costs are huge.
"Out of 100%, in the Premier League you spend 80% of your revenue, that's running and paying the players.
"It's worse here in the Championship because you are putting more money on top of the 100%. You probably put another 70% on top of the 100%.
"But in the Premiership if you've got a sponsor and play in different cup competitions, you can use only 30% of the revenue to run the team.

"As for those who are interested in Royal AM status, well it's business, and every business is a risk. You can buy it now or you can buy it late, but it is still a risk.
"But if you've got a nice plan, yes you can buy the club; if you've got money then use that money.
"The lack of sponsorship is the reason clubs are struggling to pay their players and staff. If you don't have sponsorship you are bound to struggle.
"I'm a proud owner of Baroka FC and I won't change. I don't believe in buying statuses. I'm not after the Betway Premiership grant money, I'm after the development of my fellow citizens. I'm chasing the talent not money."
