Black Leopards appoint new coach

There have been some developments in the Black Leopards' technical team following the sacking of their Ghanaian head coach, Maxwell Konadu, and his assistant, Solly Luvhengo.

Leopards have won only one game out of their last eight - not an encouraging performance for a team aiming for promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.

Currently, they sit in 10th place, 11 points behind Motsepe Foundation Championship leaders Durban City FC.

KickOff.com has established that former Swallows coach Zeca Marques is now the head coach at Lidoda Duvha after signing a three-month deal.

The Limpopo club was linked with several coaches, some of whom have recently parted ways with top-flight outfits.

Discussions between Marques and the club's management began on Saturday and were finalized on Monday.

It appears Leopards intend for Marques to be assisted by Abel Makhubele.

Marques's last coaching position was with Moroka Swallows in 2019.

In an interview with this website, he confirmed the news.

"It was Saturday afternoon when the chairman called me and said: 'Please come and help me for the next three-and-a -half months'," Marques explained.

"I had to think about it first because I already had other commitments. Mr. Thidiela had previously asked me to coach, and I couldn't accept then.

"Now that I'm here, we started training yesterday. My relationship with Mr. Thidiela is very good. He explained the salary, accommodation arrangements, and I can see that the team has potential from what I observed in training. We just need to make things happen.

"We will work on building their confidence as quickly as possible. Players don't forget how to play football; it's just a matter of regaining that confidence."
