Argentine club 'makes decision' on Esquivel

Argentine club Club Atletico Talleres have reportedly made a decision regarding Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Matias Esquivel.

Esquivel joined Sundowns in January 2024 from Lanus in a deal worth €2.30 million (R44.4 million), which at the time made him one of the most expensive transfers in South African top-flight history, as per Transfermarkt.

However, things did not exactly work out for the diminutive playmaker, as he made only 13 appearances for Masandawana before being sent out on loan to CA Talleres in August 2024.

Despite his return to his homeland in Argentina, his fortunes have not improved, as he has failed to register a single goal or assist in 12 outings for CA Talleres so far.

Unsurprisingly, it is now being reported that halfway through his loan spell, Esquivel's future at CA Talleres has been decided.

According to Argentine publication Hoy Día Córdoba, the CA Talleres management have decided that Esquivel is no longer in the club's plans and intend to part ways with the 25-year-old soon. It remains unknown if the South American club have the option to terminate the season long loan.

Moreover, the outlet indicates that Esquivel is among three loan signings being discarded by CA Talleres, alongside Ramiro Ruíz Rodríguez, who has returned to Atlético Tucumán, and Lautaro Morales, who has returned to Lanús.

Notably, Esquivel signed a four-and-a-half-year deal when he joined Sundowns a year ago, and despite his underwhelming loan spell in Argentina, he still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Chloorkop.
