Europe's 5 most clinical finishers this season

While strikers are mainly judged on the number of goals they score, some are more clinical than others, and these five stars are the cream of the crop in Europe this season!

Football has evolved into a sport that has many intricacies, making it challenging to simplify and compute. This is also the case with this list of Europe's deadliest in front of the goal.

While they may not top the scoring charts across the continent's top five leagues for whatever reason, the statistics suggest that these five stars have been true sharpshooters over the course of the season.

That predatory instinct in front of the opposition net is a rare skill, and most of the time it is what makes a striker such a valuable asset to any side. This list, which has been compiled based on how many goals they scored in comparison to how many shots they have taken during this campaign, shines a light on those instincts as well as their ability to snatch a chance when it comes their way.

5. Luka Jovic

The AC Milan star is Europe's fifth most clinical finisher, but despite collecting 17 Serie A appearances, he has managed to score just five goals, showing that chances have not come his way on a regular basis. When they have, however, the 26-year-old has proved to dispatch them in a clinical manner. According to FBref, he has registered just 14 shots, nine of which have found the target, giving him a Goals per Shot (G/Sh) ratio of 0.36.

4. Chris Wood

The New Zealand international has been sidelined of late after reportedly picking up a hamstring injury. He joined Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis at the beginning of the season, and prior to picking up the injury, showed promise with eight goals and one assist in 20 matches. He has taken 22 shots from open play, giving him a G/Sh tally of 0.36.

3. Kamory Doumbia

Doumbia
Kamory Doumbia is currently on loan at French Ligue 1 club Brest.

Brest are currently second on the Ligue 1 table, nine points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and four ahead of AS Monaco. Mali star Doumbia, who is on loan from fellow French top-flight side Stade de Reims, has played an important role in the club's admirable campaign thus far, contributing with five goals and two assists in 16 league matches.

The 21-year-old has registered 2.39 shots per 90 for a total of 13 shots, and giving him a G/Sh of 0.38. What makes his achievement even more impressive is the fact that he has only started three of his side's matches so far this season, with the rest of his appearances having all come from the bench.

2. Kolo Muani

One could say that the Frenchman has been in the shadow of Kylian Mbappe, who is in the midst of an incredible season and is one Europe's top goalscorers this eason. That said, though, Muani has not been too shabby when it comes to contributing to goals either. While he has not been on the end of many chances  he has taken just 15 shots – he has still managed to score six goals in this campaign.

This has earned him a G/Sh ratio of 0.40, which is better than Mbappe's score of 0.16. Muani has also contributed with two assists too.

1. Noah Okafor

Despite scoring on just five occasions in the current league campaign, the Swiss attacker is the most clinical striker in Europe with his stunning 0.42 G/Sh ratio. He has only taken 12 shots, giving him an Expected Goals (xG) of 2.7, which basically means that the 23-year-old is over-performing by scoring more goals than he should be. He has also started in just three league games for Milan so far this season.
