Davids' Simba keep title hopes alive with big win

Fadlu Davids' Simba SC kept their Tanzanian Premier League title hopes alive with a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Simba entered the contest seven points behind league leaders Young Africans with two games in hand.

Young Africans, meanwhile, secured a 3-0 win over Pamba Jiji on Friday, cementing their place at the top of the table.

However, Davids' men got back to winning ways after dropping points on Monday as they defeated Coastal Union 3-0.

Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala was the star on the day after bagging a hat-trick to seal maximum points.

The win sees Simba move to within in four points of Yanga, who have played a game more.

However, Davids and Simba have a big chance to cut that lead when they take on Young Africans in the Kariakoo Derby next Saturday.

"Overall, a good performance, three points, a clean sheet and we are now ready for the derby (against Yanga)," Davids told Pan-Africa Football.

"We will do normal preparations, it is a highly anticipated match, it will be against two teams going toe to toe, and we really want this type of matches.

"We wait for such matches as professionals, so it is an exciting week coming up, exciting for the fans and it is going to be a fantastic match for sure."
