Broos: You will have problems with Eto'o if...

Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos has explained why the Cameroon national team coach Marc Brys has had problems with Samuel Eto'o.

In April 2024, Brys was announced as the new head coach of Cameroon by the country's president Paul Biya.

The decision absolutely incensed Eto'o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), as the former striker was upset that his organisation was not consulted about the appointment.

FECAFOOT issued an immediate statement saying that they did not recognise Brys and that they only found out about his appointment, like everyone else, during a television broadcast.

Matters took another dramatic turn just weeks later, as video footage of Eto'o confronting Brys went viral online.

Despite the tension between the two, the Belgian coach has been able to continue with his job as the Indomitable Lions coach, helping the team qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Broos, who previously won the 2017 AFCON with Cameroon, has now weighed in on the situation between his compatriot and Eto'o.

Speaking during the Talents d'Afrique show on Canal Plus, Broos said:"I followed Marc Brys' first steps at the head of the Cameroon selection. I am not surprised by what happened with him.

"Everyone knows Eto'o. He is the president of the Federation. He could not choose his coach. So you have a problem.

"Since he could not choose his coach, you can be sure that when the results are not what he expects, it will be over for the coach. He qualified for the AFCON.

"He is a very good coach. He has had very good results. But he will be in difficulty when the results do not follow."
