Billiat's new side named the richest in Zim

Khama Billiat's new side, Scottland FC, are now considered the wealthiest club in Zimbabwe after reportedly securing close to R50 million worth of sponsorship deals for the upcoming campaign.

Billiat recently became a marquee signing for Scottland, a team making their maiden appearance in the top flight after being promoted from the second tier in 2024.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star is believed to be one of the highest-paid players in the league, and it was rumoured that he received US$45,000 (R850,000) as a signing-on fee, a claim the Zimbabwean has since denied.

Nevertheless, it is said that despite Scottland being a newly promoted team, only established in 2023, their financial resources are substantial.

According to the Chronicle Zimbabwe, Scottland are now the richest club in the Zimbabwean top flight for 2025, thanks to an investment of US$2.5 million (R47.3 million) from sponsors this year.

The outlet claims that the club secured US$1.5 million (R28.4 million) from Sakunda Holdings, one of the country's biggest energy and logistics firms.

Scottland also received US$1 million (R18.9 million) from IMC Communications, a company run by Harare businessman Wicknell Chivayo.

Notably, Chivayo also purchased 20 cars for Scottland at the end of last season as a reward for their promotion.

"Following my pledge to support Scottland FC, I am thrilled to congratulate the team and Hon. Scott Sakupwanya on their incredible win against MWOS, securing a place in the Premier Soccer League," Chivayo said in November last year, according to iHarare.com.

"True to my word, I have since delivered 20 Toyota Aquas to the team to boost morale and reward their pursuit of excellence."
