Messi 'offered' double Ronaldo's salary

Lionel Messi has reportedly been offered double the salary Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be earning in Saudi Arabia.

The 35-year-old's future remains under a cloud of uncertainty as he is yet to commit to any club beyond this season despite huge interest in his services from several clubs.

His contract at Paris Saint-Germain is due to expire in just less than three months and potential suitors now seem to be ramping up their efforts to sign the Argentine.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has received a mouth-watering proposal of €400 million (R7.8 billion) a year from Saudi giants Al Hilal. This offer dwarfs Ronaldo's reported €200 million (3.9 billion) deal, which he signed with rival club Al Nassr in December 2022.

PSG are said to be still pushing for a contract renewal, however, more recent reports suggest that the French club are proposing a reduced salary, per Marca.

It is believed that Messi wants certain guarantees and he is yet to accept the offer, while FC Barcelona are waiting to first sort out their LaLiga Financial Fair Play issue, which bars the Catalan outfit from signing and registering new players.

Messi's relationship with PSG supporters has continued to deteriorate, as he was recently booed again during the Parisians' recent Ligue 1 fixture against Olympique Lyon. - an event that has cast even more doubts over his stay in the French capital.

It has also been said that the attacker's priority is to remain in Europe, therefore the lucrative Saudi Pro League could be met with rejection despite it having the potential to break a record for the biggest football salary in history.
