Ramoreboli: We'll be ready for Bafana Bafana

Botswana manager Morena Ramoreboli has offered his thoughts on the possibility of facing Bafana Bafana at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Just days after being appointed as the permanent head coach of Botswana, South African-born coach has already set his sights on making history with the Zebras at AFCON 2025.

Having secured the team's qualification for the tournament during his stint as interim boss, Ramoreboli's leadership is already inspiring hope among fans and players alike.

The 43-year-old tactician, who had previously led Botswana Premier League side Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League, now faces the challenge of navigating Botswana through a highly competitive AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Speaking to CAFOnline.com ahead of the AFCON draw, the 44-year-old shared his views on the upcoming competition and didn't shy away from discussing the possibility of facing the challenge of his home country at the continental showpiece.

When asked about it, the coach said: "[To] be honest with you, I would like us to face them at knock-out stage of the tournament.

"If it happens in the group stage, that's fine too. They are our neighbors, and it will be a good challenge.

"With proper analysis and preparation, we'll be ready for them."

"To be honest, whoever we face, we must be ready to compete," he added.

"This is a tournament featuring the top 24 teams on the continent, and Botswana is one of them. That in itself shows we deserve to be here.

"We are ready for anyone, and while it might sound bold, I believe we should focus on ourselves and not worry too much about the opposition."

Ramoreboli's appointment comes on the back of a historic qualification campaign, where Botswana reached AFCON for the first time since 2012.

Reflecting on the achievement, the tactician credited the players' dedication and resilience, particularly during a pivotal match in Egypt.

"It wasn't easy to qualify. We faced a team that hadn't lost in over 12 matches, but our players' commitment made the difference. They sacrificed so much and fought for the nation. I give them all the credit," he said.

As Botswana prepares for Morocco 2025, the South African's focus remains on creating a team capable of making a lasting impression.

"We need to leave a mark at AFCON 2025. Success means being remembered as a team that competed fiercely and represented Botswana with pride.

"It's not just about me as a coach but about everyone—the players, the association, and the fans—working together to achieve great things."
