'Ngezana should have minded his own business'

FCSB star Siyabonga Ngezana has received some criticism for his behaviour during his side's 2-1 victory in a recent UEFA Europa League encounter, sparking calls for a bit more restraint.

FCSB took a crucial step towards continental progression with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over PAOK in the first leg of their round of 16 play-off clash on Thursday night.

However, the match was not without controversy, as Siyabonga Ngezana found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

The South African defender was involved in a heated moment that saw PAOK's Taison receive his marching orders.

Ngezana put in two aggressive challenges in quick succession on Baba Rahman and Taison, with referee Lawrence Visser allowing play to continue.

Frustrated by the officiating, Taison launched into a fiery protest, earning himself a second yellow card and an early exit.

Ngezana's reaction to the red card only added fuel to the fire, as he was seen celebrating the decision—prompting Visser to book him as well.

His actions did not go unnoticed by FCSB supporters, with Gheorghe Mustata, leader of the club's North Lawn fan group, calling for the defender to show more restraint.

"The team mobilized very well, I knew about their mobilization. I knew, because I spoke to them this week and they were confident. They went with a mentality like 'Just like we beat them once, we can beat them again'," he said per Pro Sport via Fanatik

"That means having a football player's mentality, so that when you enter the field you know that you can beat anyone, no matter what big name team they are in Europe.

"The referee was a bit harsh, he scared the players. That seems right to me, don't go and protest to the referee to show that you are someone else.

"That's what happened to Ngezana. He shouldn't have made that gesture, he should have minded his own business. He played great on the field and he should have minded his own business, not gotten a yellow card and risked a red card.

"The important thing is that we took the three points and we have an important chance to qualify."

Despite the drama, FCSB now hold the advantage going into the second leg, but the absence of a third goal leaves the tie delicately poised.
