OFFICIAL: Rulani's 'problem star' departs

An African star who reportedly had issues with manager Rulani Mokwena has officially departed Wydad Athletic Club.

Midfielder Nassim Chadli has officially left the Moroccan giants, securing a short-term loan move to Al Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates.

The Emirati club confirmed the deal on Tuesday evening, stating:

"A new Pride of Abu Dhabi talent. Al Jazira is delighted to announce Nassim Chadli has signed from Wydad Athletic Club as a resident player, until the end of 2024/25."

Chadli is claimed to have attracted interest from Saudi Arabia as well but ultimately sealed a move to the UAE.

His departure follows reports of a fractured relationship with Mokwena, who is understood to have been displeased with the midfielder's discipline and training habits.

The attacker only joined Wydad at the beginning of the 2024/25 season from French outfit Le Havre, but tensions between him and Mokwena appear to have made his stay in Morocco short-lived.

It is believed Mokwena made it clear to the club's management that he would not be relying on Chadli for the rest of the season and urged them to consider offers for his departure.

With his move to Al Jazira now confirmed, Chadli will be hoping for a fresh start, while Mokwena looks set to continue shaping Wydad in his vision.
