Madagascar progressed to the quarter-finals of Africa Cup of Nations after seeing off the Democratic Republic of Congo on penalties.
In their debut appearance, Madagascar's fairy-tale run continued after Ibrahim Amada's stunning ninth minute strike from range that sailed into the top corner.
The DRC hit back though after 21 minutes when Ngonda Muzinga set-up Cedric Bakambu who needed no second invitation to drive home.
In the final minutes of the first half, the sides threw bodies forward for the lead but neither were able to get that pedestal as the half ended all square.
Before resumption, the DRC instituted the first change of the game with Meshack Elia replacing Wilfred Moke. Momentum remained with the Madagascans, who closed in 55 after minutes but Jerome Mombris failed to beat Ley Matampi.
Steadily, the West Africans began finding their own in all areas with the Malagasy's pinned in to defensive avenues.
Madagascar regained control in the 77th minute after Faneva Andriatsima headed home from the right side following a cross by Romain Metanire.
However, DRC sent the match to extra-time after Chancel Mbemba showed a clean pair of heels to beat Melvin Andrien hands down at the death.
The first few minutes hit high notes, as Muzinga looked to put the DRC while Metainare flashed off target. Openings dwindled for either later on, with Bakambu missing a sitter from inviting scenario in the final minutes of the half.
The sequence of events drifted around in the second spell, thus sending the contest to a penalty shoot-out. Madagascar kept their cool with four successful conversions while the DRC missed two vital kicks to bow out of the tournament.
