Bafana Bafana need a draw in Group E to confirm their place in the competition that will be played in Egypt in June, but Modiba says they should go all out to get a convincing victory.
Not for the first time in the team’s history, Bafana have chosen to do things the hard way in this group campaign. They played to a goalless draw on home soil against Libya last year and failed to get a victory away from home against the weakest team in the group Seychelles.
Had they secured victories in these matches, the final group game against the Libyans would have just been a normality. Now they have to make sure they avoid defeat against the North Africans who are capable of upsetting Baxter’s men, when they meet in Sfax on Sunday.
“It’s a big game for us, for the country. We need just one point, but we can’t go there with that mentality. We need to win the game, score goals and defend well as a team because I think it will give us confidence going forward, knowing that we can score goals and defend well,” Modiba said.
“It’s going to be a tough one, especially playing away from home. We need to work hard for one another.”
Nigeria, meanwhile, have already qualified for AFCON. They take on Seychelles in the other group game. The Super Eagles host Seychelles in Asaba on Friday.
