Broos hails Bafana's mentality after Congo thrashing

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos was full of praise for his charges after a 5-0 win over Congo-Brazzaville in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

A brace from Teboho Mokoena and goals apiece by Bathusi Aubaas, Lyle Foster and Iqraam Rayners handed Bafana an emphatic win in Group K, as they moved closer to qualification.

Broos was delighted with how his players reacted after the lengthy stoppage in the first half due to fans invading the pitch.

"I can only be happy after a performance like this, I was a little bit afraid after 20 minutes when the referee decided to stop the game because we were on a good momentum and you never know after a break of ten or 15 minutes, what it will be," Broos said on SABC Sport.

"But the boys immediately had the same mentality that they had from the beginning of the game, it was just a fantastic game and fantastic performance.

"We've been working for many months and years and everybody is happy with everybody. The mentality is fantastic, the quality is there also, a fantastic evening," Broos said.

Bafana will qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament if they beat Congo on Tuesday away and the Belgian coach emphasized the importance of the match.

"Tuesday is another match, we try to achieve six from six and to come from Congo with a qualification, it will be a different game certainly, on a different pitch also.

"We will see but if we can do the same performance as today we can win and let's hope we can achieve that," the 72-year-old coach added.
