Galaxy star withdrawn from Bafana, Broos' message to club boss

A TS Galaxy defender had to be withdrawn from the 23-man Bafana Bafana squad set to face Lesotho and Benin in World Cup qualifiers due to not having a passport.

Khulumani Ndamane has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Galaxy this season.

He was initially in Bafana Bafana's squad for the two key 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but has since been replaced by Mamelodi Sundowns man Grant Kekana. 

South Africa host Lesotho at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday, 21 March, before jetting out to face Benin for the Tuesday, 25 March fixture in Ivory Coast. 

Speaking during the squad announcement at the SABC studios on Thursday, head coach Hugo Broos confirmed Ndamane's sad situation.

"Ndamane from Galaxy was with the team, but he doesn't have a passport," explained the Belgian.  

"I heard the chairman [of Galaxy, Tim Sukazi] saying at the beginning of the week, of last week, that I have to take more players from Galaxy.

"I want to take them, but they don't have passports. So, I'm very sorry about that, and it's not the first time."

In 2021, then Golden Arrows winger Pule Mmodi also had to be withdrawn from the national team for 2022 World Cup qualifiers after it was discovered he didn't have a passport.
