Bafana are currently in Tunis, where they are preparing for a crunch Group E clash scheduled for Sfax, Tunisia on Sunday evening (19h00 SA time).
The result is set to decide both side’s fate in as far as their qualification for the continental showpiece in Egypt in June is concerned, with The Mediterranean Knights needing nothing less than victory.
Veldwijk, who recently made a return to the setup for the first time since March 2017, is in line to make just his second international appearance after earning his debut against Mozambique in November 2016.
The Dutch-born striker, who has scored 17 goals for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch second division, believes he may be of some good use, even if used as a substitute.
“I am a striker and all I want to do is score goals. I think that my height will play a vital role for Bafana if I am tasked to play the number nine position against Libya, or come off the bench to make an impact,” Veldwijk said.
“We worked on some very exciting combinations this morning during training, and the players really put in such great efforts in all departments. We should have what it takes to do well, come Sunday.
“We have a very good squad here and all the players are very dedicated and true professionals. It is very nice for me to be back in the team and see some old, familiar and new faces.”
