Manqoba to inherit Rulani gripe with Broos?

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi could inherit a frosty relationship with Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos from his predecessor Rulani Mokwena.

Mokwena made it clear when he was at Sundowns that he did not have a relationship with Broos, as he often took up issues with the conditioning of players when they returned from national duty.

He was also not a fan of his players being overloaded with matches at Bafana, even in friendly matches where they could have been rested, considering they already had a hectic schedule at Masandawana.

This was particularly the case after the advent of the African Football League (AFL) - Mokwena often complained also when they returned, that they were not in good condition.

For his part, Broos was not impressed that Sundowns were seemingly hesitant to release players, particularly for the FIFA Series friendlies in Algeria, where the club's players did not travel with the rest of the squad and joined up a few days later.

The relationship between the Belgian and The Brazilians could remain frosty, after his comments that he cannot accept Teboho Mokoena and Khuliso Mudau not playing and that if the situation persists, he will have to drop the duo.

"It is difficult to understand why players like Teboho, and why players like Khuliso are not playing. They were one of the best players in AFCON. They did fantastic games with the national team and suddenly, for one or another reason, they are not good enough to play, and that is difficult for me to accept," Broos said on SABC TV after announcing his latest squad.

"But okay, that's the decision of the coach there at Sundowns and we will see what happens in the next weeks. But again, if that situation stays, I'll also have to review my opinion about Teboho and Khuliso, not that they are not good enough, but because they are not playing."

Mngqithi, who recently brought back Mudau off the bench against Kaizer Chiefs, with Mokoena yet to feature since the MTN8 semi-final second leg against Stellenbosch FC, could feel like he is being given an ultimatum by the Belgian, something that could make the situation worse for the Bafana duo at Chloorkop.
