The AmaZulu FC goalkeeper will replace the injured Ronwen Williams in goals, and former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper John Tlale backs Mothwa to make use of the opportunity if given a chance.
"I think anybody who is gonna be given the opportunity should grab it," Tlale tells KickOff.
"I know Veli Mothwa since his days in the Motsepe League playing for Baroka; he's been playing for a while, he's experienced, and today he is one of best goalkeepers in the PSL.
"But whoever is gonna start will prove himself, so I think Mothwa is ready because he's been with the national team for a while now.
"He can compete, he can play, and he is one of the bravest goalkeepers I know, and he believes in himself. He will be able to help us.
"As a goalkeeper, it's all about taking your chance; I remember, even with myself, I waited a long time for Andre Arendse, who was the first choice back then.
"I don't want to say Mothwa will shine, but he will take the opportunity. He's been waiting for this," he added.

"The reason coaches went with him in this game it's because he's been with the national team longer than the other two goalkeepers.
"He's been deputizing for Ronwen Williams for too long now, and his age doesn't allow him to sit on the bench.
"It's difficult to predict this one because Sundowns players are currently not themselves, but that said, I think South Africa will win tonight."
