Stuart Baxter buoyed by Bafana Bafana initial preparations

Bafana are set to face The Mediterranean Knights in their final Group E 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Sfax, Tunisia on Sunday evening (19h00 SA time).

The team have all assembled in the country’s capital of Tunis, where they will be based before moving on to the host city some 270km South by bus on Thursday.

Having conducted their first full training session on Monday, Baxter was pleased with the output of his charges and feels they are well capable of coming out with the necessary result against Libya.

“We had a good session. We worked on some tactics during our 90-minute session, and I am impressed with how the players have responded,” said Baxter.

“They are all looking very sharp and ready to compete for a place in the first eleven.

“We have a great squad here and I believe that if we can work as a unit, have tactical discipline and enjoy the match against Libya, we will come away with the much need result.”

One small concern for the British tactician is a hamstring strain picked up by France-based midfielder Keagan Dolly in their opening session, but the medical team have assured his swift return to training in the coming days.

Bafana need at least a draw to ensure their progression to the 24-team AFCON set to be hosted in Egypt from 21 June to 19 July.
