Ex-Banyana coach Vera Pauw lands US job

Pauw has taken charge of the Texas-based outfit, which campaigns in the National Women's Soccer League.

The ex-Netherlands international has replaced interim coach Omar Morales, who took over for Randy Waldrum in May.

“Janine van Wyk is playing here, which for me is a big bonus,” Pauw is quoted as saying to Fox 26.

“She was my captain in South Africa. She’s fantastic in her approach to the game and in the way that she wants a team to grow.”

Pauw, who has also coached the Netherlands, Scotland and Russia, guided Banyana from March 2014 to August 2016 before parting ways after the Rio Olympics.

SAFA have been dragging their feet in appointing Pauw's replacement, with interim coach Desiree Ellis thought to have come into contention after claiming COSAFA Cup honours.
