CAF Super Cup: Pitso Mosimane lauds Al Ahly after penalty shootout win

Pitso Mosimane has shared his delight after guiding Al Ahly to a dramatic penalty shootout win over Raja Casablanca in the CAF Super Cup.

The reigning African champions claimed a record-extending eighth CAF Super Cup trophy after recording a 1-1 (6-5) penalty shootout win over Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca on Wednesday.

An own goal from Yasser Ibrahim had put Raja ahead in the first half before Percy Tau set up Taher Mohamed to score a last-gasp goal and force the tie to penalties.

There, Mosimane's charges held their nerve to win a second consecutive CAF Super Cup title and extend their record as the competition's most successful team.

"I feel good," the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach said after the match. "I must first thank the players, we did practice the penalties and we took the same way we practised it.

"I want to thank players, the technical team, the supporters who put the pressure all game, Bibo [Al Ahly president] and his board."

Mosimane also lauded the efforts of his players who had to dig deep against Raja Casablanca after the early goal in order to secure the result.

"It's always tough. We thought it was going to be like this," he added. I think if Raja had played more, they would've had the chance to win, but they played to delay the game and sit on the floor.

"But we are a good team. We are Al Ahly. We have great spirit."
