Pirates and Sundowns handed Champions League boost

The two PSL clubs playing in the CAF Champions League group stage have been handed the desired extra days in sharpening up for their next list of games in the competition.

Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are carrying the South African flag on the continent this season and were in action on Tuesday for their opening matches in the group stages.

Pirates held on for a 2-1 victory against CR Belouizdad in Algiers, while Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by AS Maniema Union at Loftus Versfeld.

The Buccaneers will put up with the long-distance travel in returning to Johannesburg, where they will host Stellenbosch FC on Sunday (15:30) at Orlando Stadium.

They were then meant to then travel to Bloemfontein for a date with Marumo Gallants on Tuesday, but that game has since been postponed to a later date.

This then gives them all week in preparing for the arrival of Al Ahly on December 7 at Orlando (15:00) in what will be a blood and thunder contest.

According to the fixture list, Jose Riveiro's men will have Golden Arrows in midweek, before flying out to Cote d'Ivoire for the third group match against Stade d'Abidjan on December 14.

For Sundowns, they host Sekhukhune on Saturday at Loftus and instead of then travelling to play AmaZulu FC on Tuesday in Durban, will now then focus on FAR Rabat.

The Brazilians will then focus on the trip to El Jadida, Morocco to play FAR Rabat on Saturday, December 7 but must still play midweek against Chippa United at home, before they host Raja Casablanca the following weekend.

Stellenbosch – who are playing in the CAF Confederation group stage – have also been granted similar benefits.
