Spanish tactician Juan Carlos Garrido was sacked in a surprise move days just a week after getting past Simba SC to book a semi-final place against Sundowns and less than 48 hours after they played a draw at home with domestic league leaders FAR Rabat.
Garrido announced his departure in a video posted on social media on Friday noting that he accepted the decision to part ways with the club with pain.
He was only nine weeks into his second spell as head coach at the club following his return at the end of February.
His first stint was from February – September 2020.
Taking over from him is Sven Vandenbroeck.
The Belgian has coached Zambia, Simba, and FAR Rabat in his most recent jobs on the continent.
Wydad play away at Chabab Mohammedia on Saturday before then turning their focus to hosting Sundowns in the first leg at home at the Stade Mohamed V.
