Mkhalele: Away goal could derail Bucs

Pirates carry a 2–1 advantage going into the second leg, which will be played at Lugazi Stadium in Kampala.

In a chat with snl24.com/kickoff, former Buccaneer Mkhalele – who scored 23 goals for Pirates in 138 appearances – warned the Bucs to avoid conceding an early goal.

“If they [Uganda Revenue Authority] are to score first, then they will have the advantage because of the away goals rule,” says Mkhalele.

“The aim, then, must be for Pirates to make sure that their opponents do not get an early goal. What would even be more ideal is for Pirates to score during the opening stages of that game as this will make it much tougher for the Ugandans to win.

“Pirates won the first leg but we cannot underestimate the team that they are playing against. If they are able to score away from home, imagine what they are capable of achieving in front of their home supporters,” adds the ex-Bafana Bafana midfielder.

With the League title now virtually out of Pirates’ hands, Mkhalele believes that doing well in the continental competition will at least bring some credibility to the Soweto giants’ campaign this season.

“In terms of winning cups, Pirates have not done well this season and I am sure everyone at the club is aware of this.

“We are talking about a big club, here, that is expected to win titles every single season. This means that the players will be under pressure on Saturday. The team has to go to the next stage of the competition,” he says.
