Meyiwa performed admirably not only in the domestic League, but also in the CAF Champions League, especially in the famous match against TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi. The performances saw him named on the top five list of the 2014 African Player of the Year (based in Africa) award.
Makola believes that Pirates’ current number one, Mhlongo, has learnt a lot from Pirates’ travels in Africa, despite the fact that he was the second choice at the time.
“I think Brighton learnt a lot because if you remember clearly he was the second choice in most of our Champions League games, so he was everywhere with Senzo and he was everywhere with the team, even in the Final [against Al-Ahly].
“I think he is getting there and game by game; he will get there eventually. I’m just happy that he is progressing as a goalkeeper and I’ve got faith in him,” he adds.
