Pirates – who were handed a bye in the preliminary round – begin their latest mission to conquer Africa with a date against Uganda Revenue Authority at Orlando Stadium in a first round, first leg tie.
Gcaba notes that following their brave run in the 2013 Champions League they are motivated to repeat that feat again this year.
“It is a big one for us because we now know about continental football and we enjoyed the ride the last time out,” says Gcaba.
“We lost in the final of the Champions League and, before we lost in that final, a lot of people never thought we would reach that stage because we were grouped with, probably, the toughest teams in Africa, but we were able to overcome that.
"We soldiered on and conquered back then. Even now it is also important that we try to do what we did in the Champions League,” he says, while noting that the club are not viewing the Confederations Cup with an inferior approach.
“I don’t want to look at it that way (as being inferior). To us we take it in the same way that we approached the Champions League, because it is also important to us.
"It is all in or all out for us. We also want to conquer Africa in the same way that we did last time, so why not continue doing it now in the CAF Confederations Cup? So we are going to push hard,” assures the versatile defender.
