Pirates beat Uganda’s URA side 2-1 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, but the former Bafana Bafana midfielder maintains that the 2013 CAF Champions League finalists have the experience to go through.
“We have shown as Orlando Pirates that we can go out away and grind out a result, as we did against TP Mazembe (in 2013) and other teams,” he said.
“We have an advantage with the win and they must come at us; when they do we need to capitilise and catch them on a counter.”
Tinkler admits, though, that both the technical team and the players were unhappy after conceding so late against URA, but hopes it is a lesson learnt.
“The mood was sombre. None of us were happy,” he added.
“We knew how important it was not to concede that goal. It was key for me to go out there and tell them we still won the game. We let ourselves down in the 93rd minute.
“We will learn from that. We kept our winning streak. It is now 13 games without a loss. Fantastic.”
According to CAF, the second leg between the Buccaneers and URA will be played on April 4 at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
