New twist, Mayo set for Turkey?

Cape Town City could lose the services of striker Khanyisa Mayo before the start of the season after an unnamed Turkish team put in a strong offer for his services for the upcoming season.

Mayo has been linked to both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in recent times.

However, the 25-year-old is highly expected to leave the country with interest said to have come from North Africa.

On Thursday, KickOff spoke to his father, former Kaizer Chiefs utility Patrick Mayo, who said he would any move that his son makes, although said he was not aware where he would be moving next.

Now, new information is that the attacker could be moving to a team in Turkey.

The Citizens have already started preparing for life after their talisman with both Kermit Erasmus and Augustine Kwem touted as ideal replacements for the Mthatha-born marksman.

According to sources close to Cape Town City, Mayo has missed training this week in anticipation of the proposed move to Turkey.

"A team has put up a strong offer for Mayo. The two teams are discussing. If everything goes well, Mayo is expected to leave for Turkey this weekend," said one source.

Mayo managed to score 10 goals in 28 matches across all competitions during the 2023/4 season, and it's now no secret that chairman John Comitis, who once priced him at R40 million, is willing to sell.
