Masina: Mayo deserves his R38 million price tag

Former Cape Town City star Sibusiso Masina has backed Khanyisa Mayo to impress again this season despite a slow start to the season.

In June, City chairman John Comitis exclusively revealed to KickOff that the 24-year-old Mayo was worth $2 million (over R38 million).

Masina, who won the Telkom Knockout Cup with the Citizens in the 2016/2017 season believes the Bafana Bafana striker is still worth his huge price tag due his age.

Mayo has failed to find the net in the five goals he has played so far this campaign.

"I don't think the price tag is putting him under pressure or whatsoever, Mayo is still young he is still growing," Masina tells KickOff.

"He is a quality player so the price tag suits him, he still has a lot of years ahead of him. Buying him it's like an investment.

"Yes currently he is not scoring goals, but consistency is the problem that is affecting almost every player in South Africa.

"Only Themba Zwane and Peter Shalulile from Mamelodi Sundowns are consistent here.

"So Mayo should not be judged on consistency, let's give him time I believe he will regain his goalscoring form.

"Obviously when you are the best in your team as opponents we will give you all the attention on the field.

"That's what Mayo is currently dealing with, he's being closely marked.

"But believe me, because he is still young he will soon start scoring again Mayo."

City's next DStv Premiership encounter will be against the on-form Orlando Pirates.
