Mayo warns son against Big Three switch

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Patrick Mayo thinks his son Khanyisa Mayo should not yet consider a move to either of the big three next season.

The Bafana Bafana international is being strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 25-year-old Cape Town City centre-forward has found the back of the net 11 times this season in all competitions, he also boasts two assists in his 32 appearances.

Amakhosi currently have Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Christian Saile and the young Andile Duba as centre-forwards. They have 11 goals and two assists between them.

Peter Shalulile, Thabiso Kutumela and Lesedi Kapinga are Sundowns' centre- forwards and all 21 goals were scored by the Namibian.

"[Chuckling] I think he is right where he is right now," Mayo tells KickOff.

"At least if he can stay there at Cape Town City for another season.

"For me, it's either he stays there at City, or he goes overseas.

"Joining one of the big three so soon will only kill his football. He is a regular player where he is, he is getting game time.

"At the moment he is doing all right, he is focused on his game.

"He is enjoying playing as a striker, He might end up being even better than me in that position…maybe he can become better than me."
