Cape Town Spurs have announced the exit of Ernst Middendorp as head coach by mutual agreement. The announcement comes on the back of the Urban Warriors' relegation from the DStv Premiership.
In a brief statement published by the Cape Town-based club, it was confirmed that Middendorp would no longer serve as head coach next season.

The club's CEO, Alexi Efstathiou insisted that the decision had been a mutual one and revealed the the former Kaizer Chiefs coach was willing to stay on board and help the club secure a return to the top-flight.
"Unfortunately, due to the restrictive financial environment of the NFD, the club was unable to extend the relationship," said Efstathiou.
"There is nothing sinister in the decision as the coach clearly indicated that he was willing to stay on and assist the team in getting promoted back to the PSL."

Spurs finished bottom of the DStv Premiership table with just six wins after 30 matches, three of those wins came in the club's last six league matches under Middendorp.

The Urban Warriors are also expected to part ways with a number of key players due to limited financial muscle in the national first division.

Cape Town Spurs F.C. and Ernst Middendorp have mutually agreed to terminate their working relationship with immediate effect.CEO Alexi Efstathiou conveyed the following:
"On behalf of the board and the club, we would like to convey our sincere gratitude to Ernst for his commitment and dedication over the recent months.
"The spirited fight that he was able to master [sic] in the second phase with our team was nothing short of amazing.
"Unfortunately, due to the restrictive financial environment of the NFD, the club was unable to extend the relationship," stated Efstathiou.
"There is nothing sinister in the decision as the coach clearly indicated that he was willing to stay on and assist the team in getting promoted back to the PSL," added the CEO.
The club is poised to announce the way forward in due course.
