Chippa United head coach Kwanele Kopo is on course to make a new history with regards to the longest serving coaches at the club.
Chippa are arguably the most notorious club when it comes to acting quicker in relieving coaches of their duties, with the likes of Gavin Hunt lasting five months, Daine Klate only two months and mentors such as Lehlohonolo Seema only shown the door after a month and Manqoba Mngqithi only in charge for just over a month before being fired, among other shortest spell of mentors at the Gqeberha outfit.
There was hope that Morgan Mammila would be the first coach in the history of the Chilli Boys to start and complete a season after a brief period of good results in the 2023/24 campaign.
However, Mammila, aka 'Pound For Pound' was relieved of his duties in January this year, where Chippa appointed Thabo September and Kopo as co-coaches.

Under September and Kopo, the Chilli Boys finished 12th, as they survived relegation by four points and ahead of the new season, United decided to dismantle the co-coach arrangement and gave the sole head coach duties to the former Pretoria Callies tactician.
The results and performances have steadied since the duo were appointed in January and as a coaching team, they became the first technical team to finish the whole calendar year in charge in the history of the Chilli Boys.
Former coach Clinton Larsen came close after he was appointed in January 2019 but he was relieved of his duties three months before the festive period of December.
The longest serving coach in the history of Chippa is Dan Malesela, who stayed just over a year - 13 months, in charge between March 2016 and April 2017 as a permanent head coach.
Counting the initial three months, where he was caretaker coach would take Malesela's first spell at United to 16 months at the helm, the longest in the club's history.

Even though Kopo as a sole head coach at Chippa has only completed the first round of the season, given that he arrived at the club almost one year ago, he has a good chance and would become the first coach in the history of the club to start and finish a campaign in charge, should the Chilli Boys end the current season with the short and elaborate coach still calling the shots.
