Ngobe has received tremendous support following a report carried on this website two weeks ago that he had suffered a stroke during the Easter holidays, which then left him with speech impediment.
SAFA have since visited him at home and made a commitment to meet his medical expenses.
"I am due to start my speech therapy sessions on Monday at a private hospital and I am grateful that SAFA have come on board after you put out the information," Ngobe tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"Luckily my body wasn't affected much besides the speech. It was tough initially as I couldn't read or write but I can now do that. I can now walk, drive and I am in the gym so all is slowly going back to normal without any need to depend on anyone.
"I think you can feel the improvement in my speech from when we spoke the other time. I have been told not to rush because if I do that then I feel like I am losing energy. According to what I have been told the recovery of my speech is a process that I don't have to rush.
"The people from SAFA said they are here to assist me in my road to recovery. They told me that anything that I need for my process of recovery to speed up then I shouldn't hesitate to get in touch with them.
"Right now I have started the speech therapy and the bill will be under SAFA. They came here with the doctor [Thulani Ngwenya], who understands the medical side better and so they said I should send everything to them.
"May God bless you my brother for making people aware and stand up for my situation. If it wasn't for you, I am not sure so many people would have stood up."
The 48 year-old has been booked off from work at the Emalahleni Local Municipality until next month, though it is all dependent on his recovery.
Ngobe won 32 caps for Bafana Bafana and played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates through his career which also took him to Turkey and Asia.
