Benni fate to affect Kaizer Chiefs?

South African coach Benni McCarthy is poised to learn his Manchester United future imminently, which could add a new dynamic to the Kaizer Chiefs new coach hunt.

KickOff has previously reported that Chiefs have agreed a deal in principle to appoint Nasreddine Nabi as their new head coach ahead of the 2024/25 season.

However, the possible availability of McCarthy could give the Amakhosi hierarchy something to think about.

Bafana Bafana's all-time leading goalscorer is said to be about to learn his Man United fate this week, as a consequence to his senior manager Erik Ten Hag being rumoured to be uncertain about his future.

According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils are still reviewing Ten Hag's season, but there are fears that the United hierarchy are sounding out other managers and that the Dutch tactician and his staff may not be retained for the new campaign.

"He's [Ten Hag] got a year left on his contract and he's ready to come back and resume work at the club, but of course, you know how football works and the longer these kind of reviews go on, the more concerning it becomes for Erik Ten Hag," Sky Sports senior journalist Kaveh Solhekol said on the channel's bulletin.

"And if you were Erik at the moment and you are on holiday, you couldn't blame him for thinking, 'Something doesn't smell quite right here, what is going on? Why are we having another review? Why is the review taking this long? Why do I not know where I stand?'

"The review currently is in the final stages and the decision could come within the next [current] week," Solhekol revealed.

Reports in England have also since emerged that United have approached Thomas Tuchel as a possible replacement for Ten Hag, who has been under pressure all season following the side's worst finish in the Premier League, after they ended in eighth spot on the standings.

The Dutch tactician winning the FA Cup has seemingly not done enough to placate his terrible season.

Mauricio Pochettino has also been mooted as another potential candidate to take over at Old Trafford, especially as a free agent, after leaving Chelsea.

In his recent interview with Marawa Sports Worldwide, McCarthy admitted that he would not say no to Chiefs should they approach him.

"If the opportunity arises to coach Kaizer Chiefs, obviously you will have to sit down and think about it," he said.

"Like I said, you don't say no to an institution."
