Bvuma picks Sundowns star for Player of the Season

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has added his voice to the intensifying debate about who deserves the DStv Premiership Player of the Season award as the season draws to a close.

The season is down to its final two rounds and with that comes the prestigious award to celebrate the players who have been a cut above the rest.

Arguably no award ranks higher than the PSL Footballer of the Season accolade reserved for the player who has been the standout performer.

This season's edition has seen names like Ronwen Williams, Orlando Pirates' Patrick Maswanganyi and Stellenbosch's Iqraam Rayners all mentioned among the deserving hopefuls.

Downs head coach Rulani Mokwena did not mince his words when he endorsed Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Williams for the award, and that sentiment has received even further baking from a rival camp.

Speaking to media at Amakhosi's training base in Naturena, Bvuma said he believes Williams deserves the prestigious accolade.

"For me, Ronwen has done more than enough," said the player who celebrated his 29th birthday on May 15.

"Looking at his performances going from the previous season, coming into this season, going to AFCON, the way he's been performing, for me, I don't see a reason for him not to get this award.

"He has worked very hard. Yes, he's a goalkeeper, but it's not like he'll be the first goalkeeper to receive the Footballer of the Season.

"So, for me, he's done enough, but then who am I? Whoever is voting will do the job."

The Bafana Bafana number one has made a staggering 42 appearances in all competitions for The Brazilians this season, keeping 29 clean sheets and conceding just 15 goals.
