Chiefs star on trophies: We'll win one or two

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has made a pledge to the Khosi Nation, explaining why he believes the current season will be the one in which the Naturena-based side end their nine-year silverware drought.

While old foes Orlando Pirates last lifted silverware as recently as last week, in the form of the MTN8, Amakhosi have not tasted trophy success since 2015 when they won the league title under Stuart Baxter.

What has followed has been various seasons of what-ifs, almost and, quite literally, last-day disappointments under various coaches, including Ernest Middendorp, Gavin Hunt and, most recently, Cavin Johnson.

However, with a new head coach in Nasreddine Nabi and an all-new technical team, the Soweto giants have started the campaign with a lot of promising signs.

They convincingly won two of their two opening matches, only stumbling in their third against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Even then, Chiefs could have won the match as their 12 shots at goal topped The Brazilians' 10.

Speaking to media at the club's base in Naturena on Thursday, Bvuma said he is confident this is the season where the side will annex a trophy.

"We grew up watching Chiefs winning trophies every season and I've been here for eight seasons now and we haven't won anything.

"I believe that with the way we are playing now, we are going to change this trophy drought. I believe we are going to change it. We are going to get a trophy or two this season.

"So, things are looking well and they are definitely going to change," says the 29-year-old.
