Chiefs reshuffle: Who stays and who goes at Chiefs, and why?

The annual reshuffle at Kaizer Chiefs could have 'earthquake tremors' as the club sieves through a squad pregnant with players that have failed to justify their presence at Naturena.

While the big wait is on the appointment of a new coach there are several players who will leave.

As is always the case there will be performance-based decisions to be made at Chiefs during the off-season the same way it has always happened.

Just last year, Khama Billiat, Mulomowandau Mathoho, Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana, Phathutshedzo Nange, Cole Alexander, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Kgaogelo Sekgota, and Thabani Dube had to make way.

Top of the list of those that could be headed for the exit is the pair of big earners Itumeleng Khune and Keagan Dolly.

Kaizer Chiefs have captaincy auditions underway fo

There is so to ponder on Khune considering his legendary but based on football, he has played little in the last four years and appears done at Chiefs.

The veteran goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of June and the club has already indicated that he is on his last contract as a player.

He has played six games this season.

Dolly is also out of contract at the end of June and questions are already in the air relating to what will justify an extension for him.

His season has been swallowed by injuries with eight appearances (470 minutes) and no goal all he has to show for the last year of his multi-million contract.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - MARCH 05: Brandon Pet

The goalkeeping department will still have the pair of Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen if he Khune leaves.

While considerations might be made for another keeper, it is worth noting that Karabo Molefe is still waiting for his chance.

At the back, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe will continue at the club despite having been disturbed by injury along the way in his first season.

Given Msimango has been the best performer in defence and has his place secured.

For Njabulo Ngcobo whose contract is up in June, there are concerns just like Edmilson Dove is also worrying with his deal also up.

Reeve Frosler has done the basics right and should stay as he is still under contract just like Zitha Kwinika who does a job at right-back and central defence.

At his age Sifiso Hlanti (34) is still good value for money while Happy Mashiane needs to avoid just being in the comfort zone.

Dillan Solomons hasn't used his pace to make any difference and will need to do better when he is back from injury.

POLOKWANE, SOUTH AFRICA - MAY 07: Ranga Chivaviro

Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo is unsettled after a drop of fortunes but will still be needed in the new season with his contract still running.

Yusuf Maart still has another season and so will stay and justifiably so just like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Pule Mmodi, and Mdu Shabalala even though they need to understand the need to be consistent.

For Sibongiseni Mthethwa, he has been ordinary while Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tebogo Potsane still have so much to prove about their presence at Chiefs.

Siyethemba Sithebe is out of contract having done little just Lehlogonolo Matlou.

Sabelo Radebe and Samkelo Zwane will be given the benefit of doubt in that they will grow with Mfundo Vilakazi and Donnay Jansen expected to progress further next season.

Colombian striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez will leave after the expiry of his loan.

This means Ranga Chivaviro, Christian Saile Basomboli, Ashely du Preez, and Wandile Duba will face the weight of having to score goals upfront.
