Doc Khumalo: This is exactly what Kaizer Chiefs need

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has explained why he believes new Amakhosi signing Gaston Sirino has been signed at the right time.

The Soweto giants announced on Friday that they have bolstered their attacking line with the addition of Sirino who joins on a two-year deal.

The Uruguayan joined on a free transfer, having been released by Mamelodi Sundowns – ending a six-year stay with The Brazilians where he won the league title in each of those years.

At 34, Sirino is at the twilight of his playing career and although the move has been questioned by some sections of the football community, Khumalo believes this vast experience is exactly what the Naturena-based outfit needs.

"Having watched him (Sirino) play at Sundowns, he did well," Khumalo said on SoccerZone.

"I think he comes to Chiefs at the right time; he really wants to play. He was not given a fair deal at Sundowns and this is not me talking bad about them but I'd like to believe that.

"He also comes now to a new set up, with new coaches. now these coaches are highly qualified and they understand what they want. I'd like to believe Nabi and his team will benefit out of Sirino's experience because this is exactly what Kaizer Chiefs need at the moment."

Ahead of the new season, Chiefs had let go of several of their experienced players including Keagan Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo and Sifiso Hlanti.

In terms of arrivals, Sirino is joined by defenders Rushwin Dortley and Bongani Sam, as well as goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.
