'Chiefs are the favourites in this one'

Kaizer Chiefs great Zebulon 'Sputla' Nhlapo has made a bold claim about the team's chances of beating Mamelodi Sundowns in what is a highly anticipated clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The two giants of South African football meet in a Betway Premiership on Saturday with not just three points on offer but pride also at stake.

Chiefs and Sundowns are yet to feel the bitter taste of defeat this season, having won both their opening fixtures.

Nhlapo believes Gaston Sirino will carry the hopes of the Khosi Nation on his thin shoulders.

"This is going to be one tough game, but Kaizer Chiefs will not come out empty-handed. They will either win or draw the match," Nhlapo tells KickOff.

"I will accept a point because Sundowns players have been together for much longer compared to the current Chiefs squad. They are a well-oiled machine.

"They can play even with or without the ball, and that is something our new coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has now introduced to our Chiefs team.

"Also, the Chiefs backline has improved a lot compared to last season.

"I believe Kaizer Chiefs are the favourites in this one since it's our home game. We will have more fans than Sundowns. I'm happy to see the Chiefs supporters back in the stands again. They are going to be our 12th player," he went on.

Nhlapo also revealed how he thinks the Glamour Boys can pull off a victory against a side they have not beaten much in recent years.

"Every Chiefs player wants to die for the team now. As long as we keep on making use of our scoring chances, we will beat Sundowns tomorrow.

"Sirino will be our match winner. He will be looking to prove a point against Sundowns. Kaizer Chiefs is back now.

"The boys respect Nabi and they listen to him. They must just not allow Sundowns to play. They must prevent them from owning ball possession at all costs.

"Remember, only one ball is allowed on the pitch at a time, so if we allow Sundowns to be the ones always on the ball, then how are we going to play? Siyodlala ngani thina?

"So, the only way to match Sundowns is to go pound-to-pound with them. It's time we play for our badge. I believe we can match them."

Kick-off is at 15:00.
