Further details emerge on purported Mdantsane to Chiefs deal

More details have emerged over the failed move of Cape Town City midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane to Kaizer Chiefs.

One of the major sagas of the January transfer window was the move of City midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane to Kaizer Chiefs that never happened. City head coach Eric Tinkler has claims that it was Amakhosi whop pulled out of the deal.

"The little that I know is that it was very, very close. It was literally last minute that Chiefs opted not to go through with the deal, but I don't know the exact details behind that," Tinkler told Robert Marawa's MSW.

Sekhukhune United were another Premiership team believed to have made a last minute effort to sign the midfielder.

"The player [Mdantsane] had been informed. I also knew about it, I knew about both [Chiefs and Sekhukhune deals]," added Tinkler.

It had been believed that City had turned down both offers from Amakhosi and Sekhukhune, but Tinkler insists that he was ready to part with his star.

"I've been at Cape Town City right from the start, back in 2016 and we've always had the belief that we'll never stand in the way of a footballer [from] bettering his life," added Tinkler.

"Those clubs, Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns, those are obviously targets for the players to go [to]. Those clubs can pay the players quite a substantial amount of money to sustain themselves, so I'll never stand in the way of that."

Tinkler will be happy to still have Mdantsane in his squad with the 28-year-old being one of City's most-relied on players, making 24 appearances for the Citizens.

Tinkler's charges take on Brandon Truter's Sekhukhune United on Saturday.
