SNATCHED: 'They also wanted to take him with to Turkey'

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have had a player they were targeting in their attempts to solve the problematic left-back position snatched from right under their noses by a PSL rival, before signing Rushwin Dortley from Cape Town Spurs.

Chiefs have been without proper competition in the left-back position, with S'fiso Hlanti the only trusted natural left footer in that spot last season.

The technical team did not fancy playing Edmilson Dove as a left wingback and instead mostly deployed him as a left-footed centre-back.

With Happy Mashiane also not getting minutes, the Glamour Boys, when Hlanti was not available, often preferred using Reeve Frosler at left-back, who is naturally right-footed but can use both feet well.

The Soweto giants were faced with a potential crisis in that position after parting ways with Hlanti, as Dove got injured in their pre-season tour of Turkey, alongside Bongani Sam, who was training with Nasreddine Nabi's charges but is yet to be officially recruited.

In addressing the issue, Rushwin Dortley has been signed from Cape Town Spurs.

However, the club is said to have also approached Jomo Cosmos for the services of Vuyo Letlapa, 20.

Cosmos chairman Jomo Sono recently revealed that his team's 'left-back' trained with Chiefs for a while just before they took off for Turkey but alleged the player was tapped up by Sekhukhune United, who recruited him to their ranks.

"Now they [Sekhukhune] just took [my] left-back, he was training with Chiefs. Chiefs did the proper thing, they approached me professionally. Unbelievable. Then we spoke," Sono revealed on 947's MSW.

"I drove the boy from Bush [Bushbuckridge] to the hotel. I dropped him there, he didn't say anything. He trained at Chiefs the following day and they also wanted to take him with to Turkey because he's class, he's one of the best left-backs in the country."

KickOff understands the left-back 'Bra J' was referring to is Letlapa.

Given that Chiefs earmarked Sam, who is 26, as one of the potential signings, including Letlapa, who has since been snatched by Sekhukhune, the Soweto giants are looking at potentially finding an additional left-back or not only for the present but for future.

Letlapa is apparently viewed by Babina Noko as a replacement for Asekho Tiwani, 19, who has attracted strong interest from Mamelodi Sundowns.
