'I supported Chiefs because of Teenage Dladla'

In this edition of Supporters Forum, KickOff speaks to Kaizer Chiefs fan Klaas Msiza from Mpumalanga about his long-standing affair with the Soweto giants.

Like most Chiefs fans these days, Msiza accuses the children of club chairman Kaizer Motaung of finding their father's boots too big to fill.

Club supported?

"I have never supported any club besides Kaizer Chiefs. The reason being, when I started school in 1978 in Arnot, my former teacher Mrs Sikhosana said to me I should be like Nelson 'Teenage' Dladla. I was very good in football.

"Now because Teenage Dladla was a Chiefs player, to watch him play I had to follow Kaizer Chiefs [laughs]. You know how it was those days. So, I supported Chiefs because of Teenage Dladla. We used to win lots of Mainstay [Cup] and JPS [Cup] trophies those days."

How long supported?

"This is my 46th year. I'm counting from 1978."

Are you happy with the bosses?

"I miss those days when Kaizer Motaung was involved in the day-to-day running of the club.

"Motaung used to know the best coaches from abroad because he played at Atlanta Chiefs.

"These days, Chiefs are more worried about saving money for the Motaung legacy."

Are you happy with the coach?

"Kaizer Chiefs needs coaches like Jeff Butler, Joe Frickleton and Paul Dolezar. They had lots of experience in football."

Are you happy with the players?

"The current Kaizer Chiefs players are not thinking out of the box. It's like they are programmed. They want to do exactly what the coach asks of them. If that fails, then they are doomed.

"They don't give us any wow moment."

Who do you want them to sign?

"Tawanda Chirewa the Zimbabwean national team player. That is a Kaizer Chiefs type of player, he is arrogant and confident. We need a Neymar-type player. People who can minus opponents."
