Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika issues apology

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has issued an apology to the Amakhosi faithful following the loss to Sekhukhune United on Saturday.

Chiefs were denied their 53rd Birthday celebrations after falling 1-0 to Brandon Truter's Babina Noko at the FNB Stadium.

Kwinika failed to control a pass that ultimately landed in the path of Sekhukhune striker Vusumuzi Mncube.

The forward was on hand to pounce on the opportunity and powered the ball past Itumeleng Khune, whose touch was not enough to deflect the goal-bound effort.

Responding to supporters on Sunday via Twitter, Kwinika issued an apology for his part in the goal.

"I am sorry my brother, and [to] the Khosi nation at large," the defender said on his official Twitter account.

With 17 appearances across all competitions under his belt, Kwinika has been one of Zwane's most relied-on players this season. The former Stellies captain has missed just one of the Chiefs' matches in the first half of the 2022/23 campaign.

The loss to Sekhukhune means Chiefs failed to make ground on runaway leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, as both second-placed SuperSport United and third-placed Richards Bay suffered defeat in their respective fixtures as well.

Amakhosi will have their next chance to club up the table when they meet AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday.
