My Welcome to the League Moment - Siyabonga Nomvete

In our exciting feature, My Welcome to the League Moment, KickOff catches up with former Kaizer Chiefs and African Wanderers striker Siyabonga Nomvete.

Nomvete insists that instead of any player giving him difficulty on the pitch, he was the one who terrorised opponents with his pace.

"I was just excited to finally make it into the PSL. I was excited to rub shoulders with big names and big teams," Nomvete tells KickOff.

"You know, playing for a small team, you want to impress so that big teams notice your talent.

"So, nothing made me nervous because my aim was to end up overseas and play for the national squad.

"The only thing I focused on was to make money that could help me put bread on my family's table.

"I guess I was too excited to be nervous."

"Nobody gave me a hard time when starting out. I killed them with pace, I had speed and they couldn't catch me.

"I was not the type of striker who stood still waiting for the ball to come to him.

"I was the type of striker that ran all over the pitch. I played with the likes of coach Mandla Ncikazi.

"They were the ones who were supplying me with balls."
