Chiefs keeper coach exit concluded

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi's exit from his FFRiM (Fédération de Football de la Mauritanie) job is done and dusted.

Mzoughi has held a goalkeeping job with the Mauritania senior national team since November 2021 after joining from Tunisian club US Ben Guerdane having previously worked in Libya, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, amongst other countries.

In Mauritania, he worked with Gerard Buscher, Didier Gomes, and Amir Abdou but had to leave upon the sacking of the Comoros Frenchman late last year.

Mauritania have since appointed Aritz Lopez Garai as their new national team coach.

Mzoughi's goalkeeping job has since been taken by Aboubekrine Soueilem (37), who also holds a similar job with domestic champions FC Nouadhibou and was in charge during the recent FIFA dates.

While Mzoughi's job was never guaranteed upon Abdou's exit, confirmation has only come in now that he will no longer be needed with all outstanding matters with FFRiM also cleared.

There will be no long-distance travels with every FIFA date anymore like was the case thrice last year, which forced Chiefs to bring back Aubrey Mathibe.

This then paves the way for the vibrant goalkeeper coach to solely focus on the Soweto giants, where he is working under Nasreddine Nabi.

Under Mzoughi, the side had a difficult start in the goalkeeping department with a single clean sheet in the first seven games but have since improved to seven in the last 20.
