Nabi's Chiefs compared to last season at this stage

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi's report card continues, with stats reading like a horror movie compared to the 2023/24 season at this stage.

Nabi will be harshly judged on whether he has improved Chiefs, after arriving with the boost of off-season signings such as Rushwin Dortley, Fiacre Ntwari, Gaston Sirino, Bradley Cross, Inacio Miguel, Bradley Cross, and Njabulo Blom.

He also had the benefit of January acquisitions, in Makabi Lilepo, Thabo Cele, and Tashreeq Morris.

However, comparing to last season, where the side had lost five after 19 league matches, the weekend defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns was their eighth of the campaign.

Meaning, in terms of defeats, Nabi has lost three more games compared to last term, at this stage.

The current run is the worst for Chiefs in the PSL era years, after the previous seven losses at this stage in 2022/23 matched two other seasons where they had seven defeats in the corresponding fixtures.

In terms of points, they had 29 at this stage last campaign.

However, the Soweto giants under Nabi are currently stuck on 25 points in comparison, five points short compared to the 19 games stage last time out.

It appears Nabi enjoys the fanbase's support in completing the season and being given another campaign.

However, what is keeping the scrutiny away from the Tunisian is the fact that Chiefs are still in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals, where hopes of winning silverware are still alive.

Amakhosi were knocked out of the cup competition in the first round last season.

They will be looking to avoid a third successive defeat for the first time this season when they host Magesi at FNB Stadium on Tuesday (19:30).
