How new Chiefs goalie compares to Williams & Chaine

Following confirmation that TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has signed for Kaizer Chiefs, KickOff compared his statistics with those of his rivals in the league.

Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has already confirmed that Ntwari will be a Glamour Boy ahead of next season.

One of the main reasons Amakhosi had their worst finish in the PSL era, after they ended up in tenth place in the DStv Premiership standings, was the lack of a consistent goalkeeper.

The Soweto giants initially handed shot-stopper Brandon Petersen the captain's armband early last season, which meant he had to start matches. However, erratic performance saw him lose his number one spot and alternate with Bruce Bvuma.

Although the latter was a clear first choice in the latter stages of the campaign, his form also dipped, which left Chiefs with no choice but to strengthen the goalkeeping department, especially with out-of-contract Itumeleng Khune currently sidelined.

Conversely, Ntwari was one of the main reasons Galaxy finished sixth, their highest finish in the Premiership so far.

The Rwanda international made 18 starts in the league last season and kept a commendable eight clean sheets.

He did not concede in 44% of his matches, which is impressive, considering Galaxy are not one of the big teams.

In comparison, Orlando Pirates' Sipho Chaine also made 18 starts in the league but only kept five clean sheets.

He conceded in 72% of his matches, keeping a clean sheet in only 28% of his games.

Sage Stephens of Stellenbosch FC, meanwhile, was only marginally better than Ntwari, as he kept 11 clean sheets out of his 23 league games, meaning he kept a clean sheet in 48% of his matches.

In percentage terms, Sekhukhune United's Badra Ali Sangare kept a clean sheet in 43% of his games, after not conceding in 10 of his 23 league matches.

Even Cape Town City's number one Darren Keet was had a lower clean sheet rate than Ntwari, as he did not concede in only 34% of his games, lowered by a high number of games he played.

Keet kept 10 clean sheets out of 29 DStv Premiership matches for the Citizens.

Obviously, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was head and shoulders above the rest, as he did not concede in 68% of his matches.

The reigning PSL Footballer and Goalkeeper of the Season kept a staggering 15 clean sheets out of 22 league encounters.

Chiefs, as a whole, kept a clean sheet in only 40% of their league games, a little lower than Ntwari was able to manage at Galaxy alone.

Amakhosi kept 12 clean sheets out of 30 league matches.
