Bafana bright lights for Chiefs midfielder

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has set himself up for his prime target just within weeks of joining Kaizer Chiefs after eight-and-a-half years in Europe.

Cele signed for Chiefs in January after the end of his time with Russian club Fakel Voronezh.

Prior to arriving at Naturena, the 28-year-old had played all his professional career in Europe, starting out in Portugal, then having a stint in Poland, before ending up in Russia.

The drive in his move to the Soweto giants has been motivated by his desire to be in front of the Bafana Bafana selectors.

In just five matches at the club, Cele has shown plenty to be considered for the senior national team.

Since making his debut from the bench in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, he has quickly slotted into the central midfield role and now has four starts to his name.

He has played from start to finish in the last three and is standing amongst the better performers at the club.

Cele moved to Europe in 2016 from the KZN Academy, but with all the clubs that he has been with in Europe not offering an avenue to the national team, it only made sense to return home.
