Questions marks over Chiefs winger ahead of transfer window

Kgaogelo Sekgota has completed his first two years at Kaizer Chiefs with questions about critical elements to his game leaving him at risk of being considered for a potential swap deal in this transfer window.

Despite being exciting and speedy, Sekgota has little to nothing to show for his contribution on the pitch at Chiefs in the two years that he has spent there since arriving from Swallows FC.

In the recently concluded season, Sekgota scored zero goals and provided just two assists in 29 appearances.

His last 90 minutes contribution was last year in October and since then all 15 but one of his appearances were from the bench as concerns were raised by Arthur Zwane about his inability to last in games.

From the 2021/22 season, his contribution was no goal and no assists in 19 appearances.

This means in 1850 minutes of football played for Chiefs, the 25-year-old has no goals and only two assists – not impressive at all for a winger.

Increasing speculation suggests that while he still has another season on his contract, he could be considered to sweeten a deal to bring in one of the club's targets.

Amakhosi have profiled and identified targets in that position and are said to be working towards a way of sealing those deals.

Such is the length at which Chiefs are going into analysing every member of their squad's contribution it has meant all finer details are being considered.

Sekgota spent three years in Europe starting out with Stumbras in Lithuania before switching over to Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal after which he then returned home to join BidVest Wits at the beginning of 2020.
