With concerns over the supposed looming suspension of Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel, KickOff lifts the lid on what the rules say.
Miguel picked up his sixth yellow card of the season in the 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City, with subsequent concerns he would be facing a two-match ban, should he get two more yellow cards, as per the rules.

The 29-year-old has already missed three games owing to suspensions, after he got a red card in a 4-0 drubbing by Mamelodi Sundowns and had an automatic two-match ban in the side's subsequent two fixtures against Magesi FC (2-2 draw) and Richards Bay FC (2-1 win).
He was suspended for the second time after he picked up his fourth booking and was banned for another match, a 2-2 draw against Royal AM.
With six yellow cards to Miguel's name, under normal circumstances he would have been two yellow cards away from getting a two-match ban for an additional four yellow cards in the same season.
"For each additional 4 (four) cautions received by the same Player in the same Season, the suspension will be increased by 1 (one) match from the suspension previously served," article 54.3 reads in the NSL Handbook.
However, the centre-back is a little off the hook in terms getting closer to reaching four yellow cards again, as the other two yellow cards were in a match that turned into a red card - against Sundowns - and the two cautions would not count for the purposes of additional yellow cards.
"Where a Player receives a red card in a match any yellow cards received by the Player in such a match will not be counted for the purposes of this Rule," article 54.5 of the Handbook clarifies.

Indeed, according to PSL yellow card records published on Monday, Miguel currently has one yellow card to his name after his booking against City, as other yellow cards have been expunged after he served his sentences.
The Angolan will receive a three-match suspension if he gets a second red card of the campaign.
